Barcelona have confirmed the departure of Memphis Depay to Atletico Madrid and have also acknowledged a very interesting clause in the deal.

The Dutchman has been allowed to leave for a fee in the region of €3-4 million, but there is a clause that will allow them to sign Yannick Carrasco if they want to. The player is set to remain at Atletico Madrid for the time being, but will be able to move on whenever the Culers want.

Memphis Depay joins officially Atletico Madrid

“FC Barcelona and Club Atlético de Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Memphis Depay for the fee of 3 million euros plus one million in variables. The agreement includes a preferential but not compulsory purchase option for the player Yannick Carrasco,” the official statement read.

“FC Barcelona would like to publicly thank Memphis for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future.”

The clause to sign Carrasco is valued at €20 million, and is not mandatory to be exercised.

Memphis Depay, on the other hand, has signed a two-year deal with Atletico Madrid until 2025. He has been presented as a new player for Diego Simeone’s side, and replaces Joao Felix, who left to join Chelsea on loan.

The main reason behind Depay pushing for an exit was the lack of playing time under Xavi Hernandez. At 29, he is at his physical peak years and will be expected to convert chances into goals, something that Atletico have really struggled with this season.
