WIPL 2023: BCCI will allow 5 foreign players in a franchise and the auction purse will be worth Rs 12 crore

After establishing the IPL as one of the most successful T20 tournaments, the BCCI is ready to host women’s IPL for the very time. The board wants to change the total number of players in each franchise. They want to bring the number to five. They have also set the base price of Rs 12 crore. It’s also reported that the fund will increase by 1.5 crores in the coming four years. By the end of the five-year cycle, there will be an increment of Rs 18 crore.

The media rights of WIPL were sold to Viacom 18 and the owners of the franchises will be announced on January 25. A total of 30 companies have picked the tender documents for participating in the auction to own a team. Interestingly, all ten franchises of IPL have got the tender document.

Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings will be bidding for the WIPL teams. It is to be noted that the bids will be valid for the next ten years.

The player purse will also start from INR 12 crores in 2023 which is supposed to hike to 13.5 crores in 2024 and 15 crores in 2025 and by 2026, its worth will touch 16.5 crores. In the first five years, there will be five teams and in the last two years of the first cycle they’ll have six teams.

The BCCI sold the BCCI rights up to INR 950 crore to Viacom18 and five franchises will be taking place in the first three years. A total of 29 ITTs have been sold but only 15 parties have shown interest. Total prize money of INR 10 crores is to be given to the players, 6 crores for the franchise winning the league, and 3 crores for the runners-up. As per BCCI, 100 percent of the money will be distributed to the players.
