For users in India, Amazon is testing a new subscription service called Prime Lite. The service is currently only available in the country to select Prime members as a Beta version, with an introductory price of Rs. 999 per year.
With a few key differences, Prime Lite offers nearly identical benefits and services to Amazon Prime. The new Prime Lite membership does not include access to Amazon Prime Music, which is a significant difference. Furthermore, Prime Lite subscribers are ineligible for no-interest EMI, free ebooks, or Prime Gaming.
Prime Lite provides Two-Day delivery on products, as opposed to Amazon Prime’s Same-Day or One-Day delivery.
Prime Lite subscribers have unlimited access to Prime Video, but it is not in HD and contains advertisements. The content can be streamed on two devices at the same time, one of which must be a mobile phone.
It’s worth noting that in December 2021, Amazon raised the annual subscription price of Prime in India from Rs. 999 to Rs. 1,499. The new Prime Lite subscription offer is available at the previous price of Rs. 999 and is a more affordable option for users who do not require all of Amazon Prime’s benefits.
Amazon’s Prime Lite service is currently in beta testing and is only available in India to a small number of users. The company has not stated when or if the service will be available to all users nationwide.
