The initiative demonstrates Apple’s efforts to shift away from having its supply chain based mostly in China, amid geopolitical concerns and disruption brought by by that country’s COVID-19 lockdown measures. Apple products like MacBooks and iPads are currently produced in the region by Foxconn of Taiwan and Luxshare Precision Industry of China.

The major supplier of OLED displays for new iPhones, according to Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo, will be BOE by 2024. According to reports, the business outbid Samsung for orders for the next iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. By 2024, the company plans to become the iPhone’s primary display supplier when it begins shipping high-end LTPO panels in big quantities.

This week, Bloomberg claimed that Apple intends to use in-house, custom-designed panels for various upcoming mobile devices, including the iPhone and Apple Watch, though the displays would probably still be made by an external supplier.
