Apple will start in-house production of displays from 2024

The Cupertino giant is unwilling to shell out more from its pocket on displays of its iPhones as it looks to make everything in-house. As we know Apple spends a lot on its displays procured from Samsung and LG, however, the latest reports from Bloomberg suggest that the iPhone maker will first make its own display for its high-end Apple Watch Ultra in 2024.

Apple to make its own Display?

Apple will adapt to new microLED display technology for its upcoming Watch Ultra and use in-house displays, having done that the giant will start transitioning to its own displays for iPhones and other devices like iPad. From making its own modem chips to completely shut its relations with AMD or Intel, Apple is completely becoming self-reliant.

Though Apple won’t be producing through its own plants or setting up any manufacturing unit of any sort yet it will use outside suppliers and design its own display. As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is trying to decrease its dependence on third-party component suppliers like Samsung or Qualcomm by making its products by itself or by suppliers.

Having command over its own design and technology will help Apple will the edge, save costs and bring better displays. The latest though we will see on the Apple Watch Ultra, whose next-to-next variant will have better displays and as per Bloomberg the display will “make content appear like it’s painted on top of the glass.”

It is estimated that Apple is spending billions of dollars on its own display technology and the transition has already been planned since 2020 but was cancelled later. However, its first approach is slated for Watch Ultra in 2024 but Bloomberg also tells that the plan might slip to 2025 due to technical challenges but for sure Apple is thinking in the long term.
