Christopher Nkunku has become the latest top player to miss the World Cup due to injury. The RB Leipzig forward suffered a hamstring injury during the training session with the national team, after what seemed like a collision with Eduardo Camavinga.
Didier Deschamps has called up Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani as the replacement for Nkunku. The decision has been confirmed by the national team on their official social media accounts.
Christopher Nkunku to miss 2022 World Cup with injury
It is a heartbreaking situation for the 24-year-old, who only forced his way into the French national team earlier this year. And after performing very well with RB Leipzig, he was expected to make the starting line-up.
But now, his World Cup ambitions have been cut short, and he will have to wait for another four years before he gets another shot. The injury to Christopher Nkunku has brought up yet another discussion about whether the winter edition is a mistake.
In all likelihood, a similar argument can be made that the end of the season could have resulted in a similar injury-afflicted campaign since they can happen at any time. However, the overloaded schedule can surely add to the factors that lead to the injury being caused.
