Manchester City reported record revenues in football this summer, amidst profits upwards of £45 million. The defending Premier League champions are currently under investigation for their financial records, as confirmed publicly by the club.
The Sky Blues announced 8xBet as their ‘Official Betting Partner in Asia’, but there have been anomalies detected in the partnership by the Daily Mail.
Manchester City’s relation with official betting partner under scrutiny
Norwegian magazine Josimar asked about the company, and in particular, their history. However, there was no concrete answer as to who worked for the company and when they were founded. In addition, there were contradictions that were noticed in their claimed history.
The report claims that 8xBet’s announcement of Teddy Sheringham as their official ambassador might have been nothing more than a ‘fictional narrative’. Moreover, the woman appearing in the official announcement video was actually a model, who holds no role at the company.
“Back in the summer, a LinkedIn profile of someone claiming to be 8XBet’s co-founded and CEO, Trinh Thu Trang, was deleted after it was shown her profile photo was a stock image,” the Daily Mail reveals.
Manchester City also provided the Mail with the email address of 8xBet’s marketing firm, QOO, which apparently only serves their one client. There have also been no replies when the club was asked about the phone number and HQ of their betting partner.
There are many such anomalies that City’s lawyers continue to fight against, despite the investigation heading into its fourth year.
