India U20 suffered a second consecutive loss in their Asian Cup Qualifiers with Australia thrashing them 4-1. The Blues started their first match with a loss 4-2 in the first game against Iraq.
Even though India were defeated, it wasn’t an out and out domination from the team from down under. India were able to put up a fight, and made their opponents work for the win at the Ali Sabah Al-Salem stadium in Kuwait City.
India U20 lose second consecutive game in AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers
India went into the break down by two goals, and were able to pull one back through skipper Gurkirat Singh. The youngster scored a long range effort in the 63rd minute that caught Australian goalkeeper Jack Warshawsky on the wrong foot before finding the back of the net.
Garang Kuol opened the scoring for Australia, followed by an own goal from Bikash Yumnam. Max Caouto and Adrian Segecic found their way into the scoresheet in the second half.
India U20 came very close to scoring another couple of goals during the game. But, poor finishing and a stroke of bad luck left them with only one goal to show for all their efforts.
