There’s no clarity if the incumbent Greg Barclay will file his nomination for the second term. He kept it suspense and likely he will get a second term if he files the nomination. On the other hand, if he doesn’t there’s a high probability of Sourav Ganguly winning the election. The ICC Elections are set to be held during the board meetings from November 11-13 and the term will start on December 1.
Is it the end for Sourav Ganguly as a BCCI president?
The recent events suggest that Ganguly’s role as a BCCI president is going to end soon. In 2019, he became the first Indian cricketer to be president. Brijesh Patel was selected for the position but Sourav Ganguly with the backing of Jay Shah and N Srinivasan’s camp. However, his public feud with Virat Kohli earned him a lot of backlash from fans. He was also alleged of attending selection meetings that further tarnished his image. However, his position is fixed as an administrator. If Greg Barclay, doesn’t stand for the ICC election for the second term, Ganguly has the highest probability of being the next chairman. If Greg decides to contest for the second time, Ganguly can be BCCI’s representative to the ICC.
Jay Shah has received support from 15 state associations and is the main person behind BCCI making a profit of over Rs 48,000 crore from IPL Media Rights. Former World Cup winner Roger Binny is the new candidate for the BCCI elections, surprising everyone.
