India led by Shikhar Dhawan lost to South Africa in the 1st ODI by a very narrow margin of 9 runs. The match was held at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday, October 6. With this victory, the visitors earned the crucial Super League points with which they can qualify for next year’s World Cup in India. The hosts didn’t have a good start chasing the 250-run target. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan didn’t even last long in the field that left the hosts at 51/4 after 17.4 overs.

Things went right down to the wire but it's South Africa who win the first #INDvSA ODI.#TeamIndia will look to bounce back in the second ODI. 👍

Ravi Bishnoi scalped Quinton de Kock’s wicket which was his maiden wicket. India thought it has control over the game but Miller and Klassen proved them wrong. The duo took advantage of India’s poor death overs, misfields, and dropped catches. Mohammad Siraj and Ruturaj Gaikwad dropped catches, and Avesh Khan leaked 28 runs off the 54 runs that were scored in the last five overs.

It was South Africa’s day and they were better in every department than the hosts. The men in blue on the other hand will try to improve themselves in the next game in Ranchi.
