The time for team India is tough as Jasprit Bumrah got injured with a back stress fracture and won’t be a part of the India vs South Africa T20I squad. Reports suggest that Mohammad Siraj will be replacing him in the current South Africa T20I series.
Bumrah didn’t even play the first T20I match against South Africa as skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed during the toss that the pacer is resting due to his back pain. Due to his back stress fracture, he will miss the South Africa T20Is and the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022that is scheduled to be played in Australia from October 16.
He has to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where the doctors will examine if surgery is required. It’s expected that he will be out of action for 4-6 months.
Sources suggest that national selectors haven’t yet decided on a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah but Mohammad Siraj who has had experience in big matches can be a good fit to fill his position. Currently, he’s playing in England in the County Championship for Warwickshire.
India’s number one pacer Bumrah is doubtful for the T20 World Cup 2022 starting next month in Australia. It’s next to impossible for him to recover so fast but the board hasn’t lost hopes.
