Rohit Sharma broke MS Dhoni’s record for the most T20I victories as a captain

India won the first T20I against South Africa on Wednesday and Rohit Sharma broke former captain MS Dhoni’s record to have the highest number of T20I victories in one calendar year.

In 2016, MS Dhoni had the record of leading the Indian team to 15 wins in the T20I format. The last game against South Africa was Rohit Sharma’s 16th win.

Before leading the Indian team against South Africa, India hosted Australia for the three T2OIs where the men in blue beat the visitors 2-1. With this win, they also surpassed Pakistan’s record by having the most T20I wins in one calendar year. Earlier, the men in green had 20 victories before but India with the first T20I win against South Africa increased the streak to 22.
