West Ham United have made a €40 million bid to sign Lucas Paqueta from Lyon. The midfielder’s representatives are currently in London to wrap up the deal. Since the return of Jesse Lingard to Manchester United, David Moyes‘ side has lacked the creative outlet from midfield.
Juventus, Arsenal and Newcastle United have been linked with the player earlier in the transfer window. But, following the departure of Nikola Vlasic, the 59-year-old will receive a boost in creativity from midfield following the arrival of the Brazilian.
Lucas Paqueta expected to join West Ham United
Paqueta moved to Lyon from AC Milan in 2020 for a fee worth €20 million. He was struggling for form at the time, and has since been able to revive his career with the French side.
And ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he is set to make a move to the Premier League for a new challenge. The likes of Matheus Nunes and Hans Vanaken have all been bid for, but none of them have accepted a move to the London Stadium.
Talks with the Hammers are in advanced stages now, and only the details of the move and personal terms remain to be sorted before Lucas Paqueta’s transfer is made official. After Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, Maxwell Cornet and Emerson, Moyes will have another new player to mount a challenge for Europe.
