According to The Times, as many as ten clubs are running the risk of facing sanctions from UEFA. This is due to their failure to comply with financial fair play during the 2020/21 season, and includes the likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Roma, Arsenal, Marseille and Inter Milan.

French clubs PSG and Marseille could face financial action for their breach, while the rest, including Barcelona, could be set for stricter punishments. This can include competition prohibitions, as well as checking of other operations during the coming months.

UEFA to remodel FFP in the coming years

❗Inter Milan, Roma, Juventus and Barça may receive harsh punishments from UEFA for supposedly breaking FFP rules during the 2020/2021 season. PSG have been breaking one part of the regulations for three years now, but UEFA have given them three years to fix it.

From next year, UEFA will reintroduce a new model for Financial Fair Play. This will allow clubs to only spend a percentage of their income on player salaries, transfer fees and agent fees.

The number is expected to be 90% for 2023, 80% for 2024 and 70% for 2025. They will also check the finances of clubs during different times of the season, to ensure compliance.

PSG, in particular, are in serious trouble. They have had deficits worth over €30 million for each of the last three years. They have been given three years to rectify this, or else they could receive sporting bans alongside financial sanctions.

The full analysis is yet to be completed, since financial reports are yet to be submitted. Once the investigations are complete, we will learn the true extent of the action that Barcelona and the other clubs could face.
