Boca Juniors have completed the signing of Sergio Romero on a free transfer. The goalkeeper has signed until 2023, leaving Venezia after only one season at the club. He made 16 appearances for the Italian side, and is now headed back to Argentina for what is seemingly the final stage of his career.

“As everyone will have heard, in the last week I was training at Racing and they asked me about the possibility of Boca. I thought about it very well and I am happy with the possibility, I think it’s a step forward in my career,” Sergio Romero said.

“Talking about it with my wife at home, we decided that it was a very good possibility to be part of this club, stop at Boca and do my part for the club’s goals. It was one of the best decisions of my life, I came to the club largest in Argentina,” the veteran continued.

The shotstopper spent six years with Manchester United as their second-choice goalkeeper behind David De Gea from 2015 to 2021. He was one of the most reliable number 2s in the Premier League, and is set to feature for one of the top teams in Argentina now.

Boca Juniors are also trying to sign Edinson Cavani, who is also a former Manchester United player, in the coming days.
