India won the 2022 SAFF U20 Championship against Bangladesh in extra time, with the scoreline reading 5-2 at the end of the game. The scoring opened within the first minute, after Gurkirat Singh calmly converted a penalty.
But, Bangladesh were able to equalise right before half time owing to Rajon’s strike from inside the box. The two countries headed into the tunnel at 1-1. India had several chances to extend their lead, but missed their fair share to keep things level at the break.

Shahin Mia scored a wonderful goal right after half-time to give his side the lead. Bangladesh came out much more motivated in the second half, but a screamer from Gurkirat Singh leveled things up, sending the two teams into extra time.
The forward would score two more goals, completing his hat-trick and sealing a man of the match performance in the finals of the competition. Himanshu Jangra scored in the 94th minute of the competition to give India the lead in extra time, and Singh would carry on with his goalscoring run, capping off the victory with another screamer from around 30 yards out.
As a result of the individual brilliance of Singh and the collective impact of India’s resilience, they were able to come away with the win following a dramatic encounter at the Kalinga Stadium.
