Barcelona are set to renew the contract of Ousmane Dembele at long last. The player had accepted the proposal from the club over the weekend, and it has now been given the green light by the board as well.
The winger will be taking a 40% pay cut and will be signing a two-year deal with the Spanish side to continue until 2024. The official presentation will be held later this week alongside the signing of Raphinha.
Ousmane Dembele renews with Barcelona
First team manager Xavi was vital to the player renewing his contract. Despite missing out on the majority of the previous season due to injury, he was able to finish the season with the most assists. As a result, the manager was keen to keep him for the coming season.
And after months of drama surrounding his future, he has agreed to a new contract until 2024. Several clubs tried to sign the winger on a free transfer since his previous deal had expired. But, Ousmane Dembele was determined to stay at Camp Nou. And in a matter of days, it will be made official.
Barcelona have signed several players this summer, such as Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen and Raphinha. This week, they have activated their second economic lever to facilitate a cash injection into the club. Now, it remains to be seen whether they can move in to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.
