Matteo Guendouzi has officially ended his spell with Arsenal, and has joined Olympique Marseille on a permanent deal. The Ligue 1 club has officially confirmed the arrival of the midfielder, following his year long loan spell.
The player was ostracized from Arsenal due to his disciplinary issues, and was moved on to France last season. He spent a year with Marseille, and made a big impact for the side, helping them return to the Champions League at the end of the season.
Marseille make Matteo Guendouzi’s loan spell permanent
His good performances helped him earn a callup to the France national team for their Nations League campaign this summer as well. Having found a comfortable place to perform at, he will stay there for the next three years, until 2025.
The player has attracted a lot of praise from former head coach Jorge Sampaoli, who called him a natural leader. The Argentinian was dismissed by the club this season despite helping them finish runners-up in the domestic league.
Matteo Guendouzi has hinted that William Saliba could join him at Marseille this season as well. The pair spent the 21/22 season at the Velodrome, and both of them earned call-ups to the national team this summer. Saliba’s future has not been confirmed yet, and although he has admitted that he wants to play for Arsenal, he could be moved on if there is an absence of first team opportunities.
