Stefan Ortega has been confirmed by Manchester City as their second new signing of the summer, following Erling Haaland. The goalkeeper joins the club from German side Arminia Bielefeld.
He has been presented by the club, and has signed a three-year deal with the Sky Blues. He will be the second choice goalkeeper under Pep Guardiola, with Zack Steffen set to leave on loan. Scott Carson, on the other hand, will be the third choice goalkeeper for the coming season.
Stefan Ortega confirmed by Manchester City
“This is a fantastic move for me,” Stefan Ortega said. “Manchester City are an amazing team – a squad with world-class quality in every area. To be given the chance to join this group of players and help continue the Club’s success is a dream for me.
“I have enjoyed my time in Germany and I want to thank the Arminia Bielefeld fans for their support. But this new challenge of coming to City and playing in the Premier League is too good for me to ignore.
“I can’t wait to get started, meet my teammates and begin working with Pep and his backroom staff.”
The goalkeeper was the vice captain for Bielefeld this past season, and started all but one of their games. His arrival will allow Zack Steffen to gain some very important first team experience elsewhere. Manchester City will now prepare the official announcement for Kalvin Phillips, who has agreed a move from Leeds United.
