While it was expected that Xavi Simons would be renewing his contract with Paris Saint-Germain for the coming seasons, an interesting situation has now developed surrounding the young midfielder. He has apparently let his deal with the French side run out, and has joined PSV Eindhoven on a long-term deal.
Despite him joining the Dutch side on a free transfer, PSG have somehow agreed a buyback clause with them and will be able to sign him again in the future if they see it as a move that makes sense.
Xavi Simons signs with PSV Eindhoven
The 19-year-old was in the final stages of agreeing the renewal with PSG, but it ultimately collapsed. He was expected to join PSV Eindhoven on a loan deal for the entirety of the 2022/23 season. But now, he has signed a five-year contract with them.
Being a member of the first team now, it is likely that he will enjoy regular playing time. Moreover, the level of the league is not as high as the Ligue 1 which will allow him to develop better in the coming months.
Here is what Xavi Simons had to say about his new challenge: “PSV is a big club and I became more enthusiastic to make a move to Eindhoven after I had talks with the ambitious manager. He explained to me in detail the club’s mission. I know what style of play he wants to introduce and what my role is.
“I need to get more games under my belt and I have a great opportunity to achieve my goal in this next stage of my career. I am ready and raring to go and prove myself at PSV. I am very happy with this move. I am fully convinced I have made the right decision.”
