Newcastle United are set to confirm the signing of Nick Pope very soon. The goalkeeper has completed his medicals for the transfer, and has signed his contract for the move as well.
The deal that he has agreed is for four years, until 2026. He is set to compete with Martin Dubravka for the number one spot, and could become England’s new number one if he can put in impressive performances that surpass Jordan Pickford at Everton.
Nick Pope to be a Newcastle player soon
Burnley were demanding a fee worth £40 million for the player only a few months ago. But, their relegation has led to them accepting an offer worth around £12 million for their star player. They had the option to extend his contract for another twelve months, despite a year left on his current deal. But, they decided against it.
The 30-year-old is now set to return to the Premier League and play with one of the most exciting squads for the coming season. While it was expected that Newcastle United would be splurging the money given their new owners, they have been very sensible in the transfer market, much like RB Leipzig in Germany.
Martin Dubravka and Nick Pope are both quality number one goalkeepers, and Eddie Howe will have to rotate the two as they compete for game time. The competition will surely raise their levels and will allow them to help the team in the process.
