William Saliba has announced that he will be staying at Arsenal next season, after his loan spell with Marseille. The defender was one of the best in the league this season, helping Marseille return to Champions League football.
He was also voted the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year as a result of his performances, and will now try and break into the first team under Mikel Arteta.
William Saliba speaks out on Arsenal future
Here is what the defender said to Telefoot about his future: ‘I belong to Arsenal, I still have two years left.
‘I will be back with Arsenal. I have played zero matches and I still want to show them my true face and have the chance to play for these fans and this great club.
‘But it doesn’t just depend on me. In any case, to leave like this, would be a shame.’
There have been suggestions that William Saliba could make his Champions League debut with Marseille if he returns to them for another loan spell. But, following his good performances in France, he has strong chances of competing for game time with Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes.
The 21-year-old has proven that he can perform at the top level during his two loan spells in France. And now, he could finally be set to make his Arsenal debut under Mikel Arteta if the Spaniard decides that Saliba is ready to take on the challenge.
