The Google TV app for iOS, which aggregates content recommendations from many streaming providers and allows you to create a universal watchlist of your favorites, is now available.
Google claims it will replace the former Google Play Movies and TV app on the App Store, so if you currently have it installed, you should be able to update to the Google TV experience today.
The app, which is already available on Android, also allows you to rate prior viewings to improve future recommendations. More importantly, Android TV and Chromecast owners who have Google TV can use the Google TV app as a remote control for those devices by tapping the remote icon.
Google TV app does not show Netflix Shows
Netflix is the only major streaming service that does not allow its content to be included in Google TV’s rows of aggregated recommendations. The firm dropped out of Google TV integration shortly after the release of the 2020 Chromecast, and Google has been unable to put Netflix back in since.
Aside from its entertainment carousels, the Google TV app will also save your Google rentals and purchases. Everything is accessible via the “your stuff” page. The “highlights” option, according to Google, keeps you “up to date with a tailored daily feed of news, reviews, and more about the entertainment you enjoy.”
Google TV remains one of my favorite interfaces for exploring what’s available across all of your subscription providers. Google recently added individual user profiles to the experience, allowing each member of your household to have their personalized preferences and home screen. The corporation has also hinted that fitness features for its TV platform are in the works.
