The MLS is a popular destination for top players in Europe to see out the final few years of their playing career. Over the years, since the arrival of David Beckham at LA Galaxy, top talents have headed over to the United States for their last few years for attractive pay packages before eventually hanging up their boots.

In this article, we will be taking a look at some of the best-paid players in the MLS as of 2022.

Jozi Altidore, the only U.S. native to be part of the top five, earns a salary worth 4.3 million dollars per season. Spain’s Alejandro Pozuelo is fourth, with 4.7 million dollars per season to his name.

The third highest paid player in MLS is Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain, of Inter Miami, with 5.8 million dollars. Higuain has had a difficult spell during his time in America, struggling with injuries, fitness issues and inconsistent form.

Xherdan Shaqiri, who plays for Chicago Fire, earns 8.2 million dollars per season. He left Lyon in January after a disappointing spell with them, while Chicharito Hernandez earns 6 million, as the second highest earner in the MLS.

Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne will be joining Toronto FC at the end of the ongoing season. And he will be among the best-paid players in the league when he finally makes the switch.
