Samsung reportedly begins mass production of new foldable flagship parts

Samsung’s next two foldable smartphones will come anytime in the second half of the year, and the recent report from The Elec cites industry sources that the Electronics has started mass production of core components for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4.

Also, it will apparently start producing the foldable as soon as mid-June.

Reports calculate that Samsung is anticipating producing more than 10 million combined foldable units between the Flip and Fold series by the end of the year. As per reports, 70% of these could be the Flip series while 30% of that figure is composed of the upcoming Galaxy Fold device.

These are only rumors as the original production calculated won’t be released until July. For reference, 2021’s Z Flip3 is considered 65% of Samsung foldable while 35% was the Z Fold3. Notably, its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is compatible with the S Pen Pro and the S Pen Fold Edition styluses.

The Display will also speed up its manufacturing ability for foldable display modules. Samsung will increase from 7 to 10 production lines at its Vietnamese factory in hopes of producing 2 million display modules per month compared to the 1.4-1.5 million units made earlier. It’s anticipated that the Z Fold4 and Z Flip4’s display outputs will reach 1 million units per month by Q3.

It will reach a 1% penetration rate of global smartphone sales for its foldable for the first time this year if it operates to ship 10 million units by the end of this year.

Finally, it is calculated that the new Galaxy foldable will have a 15% profit margin as compared to the estimated 20% of margin setting of the present generation foldable. This is done to keep the cost within reach of consumers.
