Samsung was reported to work on a 600MP camera sensor which can even overhead the capabilities of the human eye. Now a most recent report from sources familiar with the matter, suggests that the company is working on a 250MP sensor that could be up to an inch in diagonal.
The 600MP sensor project seems to be a long term project so the company is now focusing on a lower resolution sensor that will be more powerful than its previous 108MP sensor used in Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. For reference, the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s 108MP sensor is 1/1.33″, which is still considerably smaller than the rumored 1″ unit.
To give an idea about the 600MP sensor reports claim that one way to do it is to shrink the pixel size – the HM1 and HMX sensors have 0.8μm pixel size, which until recently were the smallest available. Then Samsung introduced a sensor based on 0.7μm pixels and it hopes it can take the shrinking further.
Again, the same report says that the company is done with the research and development of its 150MP sensor and we will see it appear in devices launched in the second half of this year. A technological revolution is occurring in the time of the pandemic.
