Mumbai City FC have been eliminated from the AFC Champions League following their 6-0 loss against Al Shabab. The Saudi side have qualified for the Round of 16 with one game yet to play, following the demolition of the former Indian champions.
Mumbai City FC actually had the chance to go ahead first in the game after Ahmed Sharahili was dispossessed deep in the defensive half. Raynier Fernandes’ effort was saved by the goalkeeper, who also denied Lalengmawia Ralte on the rebound from six yards out. And eventually, he would go on to keep a clean sheet in the game.
Al Shabab dominate Mumbai City FC for the second time in AFC Champions League
Al Shabab were on the front foot throughout the game, following the missed opportunity for their opponents.
Hattan Bahebri scored the hat-trick for his side to help down the Islanders’ hopes of making it to the next round. The player opened his scoring following a brilliant through ball from the club captain, Nawaf Al.
Bahebri would score his second and third goal of the night only a minute apart, showing remarkable finishing ability in the 64th and 65th minute to pile onto the misery of the Indian side.
Al Shabab have joined rivals Al Hilal and Qatar’s Al Duhail SC in the Round of 16 of the AFC Champions League. Mumbai City FC will be facing Air Force Club in their final game of the competition, in hopes of going out on a positive note.
