RB Salzburg are in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk for their striker, Fernando. The Brazilian is expected to be the replacement for Karim Adeyemi at the club. The German striker is close to joining Borussia Dortmund in the summer to potentially replace Erling Haaland.
The deal between Salzburg and Shakhtar is all but official, with the transfer fee reported just a little over €6 million. The Ukrainian club are open to selling all their players in the summer since there seems to be no end in sight to the conflict in the country against Russia.
Fernando to join Salzburg in the summer
The Brazilian will be making the move to the Austrian Bundesliga on July 1, when the transfer window is open for business. Talks between the two clubs are being finalised right now so that there is no panic involved in the summer.
Fernando was having a bright start to the season with Shakhtar before the Ukrainian league had to be suspended. He scored 8 goals and provided 2 assists in 14 games across all competitions before the league was called off.
With two years remaining on his deal with the Ukrainian side, it is a bargain deal that RB Salzburg have agreed on. And it aligns perfectly with their transfer strategy of buying underrated talent and developing them into prospects for bigger clubs before selling them at a much higher price than they acquired them for. It now remains to be seen whether Fernando can follow in the footsteps of Erling Haaland and Karim Adeyemi.
