Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Barcelona, and Eintracht Frankfurt might face UEFA sanctions

Following the quarter-final matches in the Champions League and Europa League, UEFA might impose punishments on Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Barcelona, and Eintracht Frankfurt.

About the UEFA Sanctions

Although the two instances had nothing to do with each other, all four clubs are expected to face penalties. As their Champions League tie ended, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City battled a heated battle, with Felipe receiving a red card for a blatant kick against Phil Foden.

Foden then tried to waste time by rolling back onto the pitch, prompting Stefan Savic to attempt to haul him off, resulting in a 22-man altercation and a tense environment that continued into the tunnel after the final whistle. The players engaged were recognized by the fourth official, with several members of both sides being named for their roles in the commotion.

Manchester City’s players will soon suffer penalties ahead of their semi-final against Real Madrid, while any guilty Los Colchoneros players will have their sentences postponed until the start of the 2022/23 season.

Barcelona and Frankfurt

Barcelona’s Europa League loss to Frankfurt was an issue for the Catalan club both on and off the field, with a large number of German fans at the stadium breaking the rules.

UEFA requires that fans of opposing teams be seated separately in an away section, but Frankfurt fans purchased considerably more than the 5,000 seats allotted to them. Fans from Frankfurt were dispersed throughout the stadium, with tickets being resold by home fans, and Barcelona will now be probed as the match’s host.
