Al Jazira picked up their first win in the AFC Champions League with a 1-0 scoreline against Mumbai City FC. The only goal of the game was scored by Ali Mabkhout from the penalty spot following a handball. And that was enough to help the Emirati club to a hard fought win over the former Indian champions.
During the initial half, Al Jazira found it quite easy to break through the lines. The team played long balls over the line of defense to get in behind Mumbai’s defenders. As a result, they caused real problems which the team had to deal with.
Mumbai City FC suffer second defeat in AFC Champions League
The Islanders were unable to earn the second ever win for an Indian team in the competition, having lost by fine margins. The second half saw Mumbai City FC come out on the offensive much better.
They were able to keep the majority of possession, and were on the front foot for the most part. Mumbai’s attackers came very close to scoring an equaliser, with Rahul Bheke hitting the crossbar from long range in a remarkable effort.
Mourtada Fall had a great chance to score from inside the box following a corner as well. But, the centre-back squandered his opportunity with a mis-hit kick. And despite forcing Al Jazira to defend in their own half for the most part, they could not find a way past the keeper for the equaliser.
