Manchester City have qualified for the semi-final of the Champions League, winning their tie against Atletico Madrid 1-0 on aggregate. The only goal scored was at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg, with the return leg at the Wanda Metropolitano ending as a 0-0 draw.

The two teams played an intense pair of matches, with tempers running high between the players. Atletico Madrid were very charged up, and tried to look for the goal to get them level throughout the game. They were very physical in their challenges as well, with Phil Foden bandaged up early on.

Atletico Madrid exit the Champions League against Manchester City

Ilkay Gundogan had a great chance to double up his side’s lead in the first half, but his effort struck the post. And Atletico Madrid defended well against the scramble that followed to keep it 0-0.

Joao Cancelo was lucky to not have a penalty call go in favour of Atleti, after he clearly tripped Angel Correa in the penalty area. It was surprising that VAR did not intervene and make the decision either. However, Atletico Madrid had their chances throughout the game and were unable to take them.

They did a remarkable job of making Manchester City look uncomfortable in possession, and almost dragged them down to their level to score. But, a last ditch block from John Stones helped keep scores level, which meant that Manchester City are through to the last four.
