Alvaro Odriozola signed for Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2018 for a reported fee of €30m. But the right-back has been unable to challenge veteran Carvajal for a place in the starting XI.
He has only played just 434 minutes of football this season. So, he is now keen to move away from Real Madrid temporarily in order to gain some match time.
German champions Bayern Munich are looking to sign a new defensive player. According to a report from SportBild on Tuesday, Odriozola has emerged as a surprise candidate for the Bavarians.
Bayern Munich can prove to be the perfect destination for Odriozola to flourish again. The 24-year old has all the talents and qualities for becoming a top-class player. He just needs some first-team minutes, which is hard for him to get at Real Madrid. Dani Carvajal is too good a player to be displaced by him.
Another report from Marca states that the Spain international did not train with Madrid on Tuesday as he is close to leaving the Spanish capital on loan.
Zidane did not reveal which clubs are interested in signing Odriozola, but he confirmed the full-back could leave Madrid this month.
Zidane said: “He has an option to go and play elsewhere but nothing is official yet, we’re going to wait and see. The option of Alvaro going is a possibility, it’s not official.
I’m not going to get rid of one to sign someone else. We’ve got a big squad and an option could be [bringing back] Vallejo [Jesus Vallejo is currently on loan at Premier League club Wolves] but we don’t know yet.”
Odriozola, whose contract with Real Madrid runs until 2024 will definitely leave on loan, if not to Bayern Munich then to Sevilla who is also interested in the right-back. But as things stand, for now, he is just a medical check away from joining the Bavarians.
