After the departure of Zinedine Zidane in 2021 after his second stint at Real Madrid, the club President Florentino Perez was interested to bring in Massimiliano Allegri to the Santiago Bernabeu. However, the move fell apart at the last moment.
Allegri decided to join Real Madrid but he got a call from Juventus and chose the Old Lady over Real Madrid and returned there for his second spell at the club.
Massimiliano Allegri agreed to join Real Madrid but pulled out at the last minute for Juventus
Allegri told GQ Hype, via Marca: “I had already signed an agreement with Real Madrid,”
“But then, in the morning, I called the president [Florentino Perez] and told him that I would not go because I had chosen Juventus.”
“He thanked me for my words. Since Juventus called me in May, I had no doubts.”
“On a professional level it would have been the culmination of a journey, of course: AC Milan, Juventus and then Real Madrid.
“But, in life you can’t always have everything and I am very happy and proud to have coached AC Milan for four years and to now be in my sixth year at a club like Juventus.
“I turned Real Madrid down twice. The first time was when I renewed with Juve. I told the Real Madrid president that I had already given my word to [Juventus chairman] Andrea Agnelli.”
