Black Shark 5 Pro launches with the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chip along with two more models

Black Shark on Wednesday launched the new Black Shark 5 gaming smartphone Series in China. The Series comprises the vanilla Black Shark 5 and Black Shark 5 Pro. Both feature a new design as opposed to the predecessors and have the latest hardware, the phones come with the fancy SharkEye RGB Lighting effect at the back, and the Pro bags DXOMark’s top-ranked speaker setup.

Let us take a look at the detailed specs:

Black Shark 5 Pro:

The Black Shark 5 Pro is the premier model, it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chip, there are also two vapor chambers, one on each side (4,323mm2 + 997mm2). The Snapdragon is paired with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

The storage is split equally between an NCMe SSD and the usual UFS 3.1 storage with 512GB. Using the so-called DM Cache technology, Black Shark has managed to improve the random read and write performance. Also, the past LPDDR5 RAM can be used to create a RAM disk for occasions even faster storage is required.

The phone has a high-performance 4,650mAh battery with support for 120W fast charging. 0-100% charge can be achieved in just 15 minutes, there is also a temperature control mode that slows it down to 24 minutes, the phone features battery bypass for gaming while external power is plugged in.

The Black Shark 5 Pro is equipped with a 6.67″ AMOLED. The 10-bit panel supports HDR10+ along with the DCI-P3 color gamut. It has two ambient light sensors and the brightness can be adjusted to match any kind of condition perfectly.

The display of the device has a 144Hz refresh rate and 720Hz touch sampling rate, in addition to this, there is a magnetic shoulder button that pops up on the side of the device that uses a gaming-grade microswitch.

The phone has two symmetrical speakers, an X-axis linear Motor, and four mics. In the optics department, it packs a 108MP primary sensor, a 13MP ultrawide angle sensor, and a 5MP telephoto macro lens. The device comes in Meteorite Black and Tiangong White colors.

The BlackShark 5 will be available from the 2nd of April and will be priced at CNY 4,200 or 50,000 INR. Keep in mind that this is exclusive to China.

Black Shark 5 RS:

The Black Shark 5 RS features the Snapdragon 888 and 888+ chip, the Plus version is available on the 12GB+256GB variant. Apart from the chips, the Black Shark 5 RS packs the same split in storage between SSD and UFS, and also the same cooling technology.

The battery is slightly smaller at 4,500mAh, it does support 120W charging and can go from 0-100% charge in under 15 minutes.

Coming to the display, the Black Shark 5 RS has a 6.67″ AMOLED display with HDR10 and DCI-P3 color gamut. It has a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. Similar to the Pro variant, the device has a 144Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of 720Hz.

The Black Shark 5 RS has the same dual speakers setup with Hi-Res Audio and DTS:X Ultra support. In the optics department, you get a 64MP primary sensor, a 13MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 5MP telemacro shooter.

The Black Shark 5 RS will launch on Saturday for a price point of CNY 3,300 or 39,400 INR. It will run on Joy UI 13 OS.

Black Shark 5:

The Black Shark 5 is the most basic variant and it is powered by the Snapdragon 870 chip with two vapor chambers for cooling. This device has no SSD, just the good old LPDDR5 RAM in 8GB/12GB configurations and UFS 3.1 storage in 128GB/256GB configurations.

The Black Shark 5 utilizes the same display as the others, it has a 6.67″ AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 144Hz touch sampling rate. The camera setup is similar to the RS variant with a 64MP+13MP+5MP setup on the rear and a 16MP selfie shooter.

The battery is also identical to that of the Pro variant, with a 4,650mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. You get the safe mode option here as well but it will take 24 minutes for your battery to charge.

The Black Shark 5 will be available in China from the 2nd of April and will be priced at CNY 2,700 or 32,200 INR. It comes in Black, Dawan White, and Exploration Gray colors.

Accessories:

Black Shark has also unveiled multiple accessories that pair well with the Black Shark 5 Series. The Black Shark Wireless Buds are based on the Snapdragon Sound platform with 12mm drivers and Active Noise Cancellation up to 40dB.

The latency of the buds is not the best clocking in at only 85ms, the buds on the other hand are IPX4 splashproof and come with wear detection. The battery life of the buds is pretty impressive as they support 30 hours overall and the case when charged for 15 minutes can provide battery support up to 3 hours.

These buds retail for CNY 450 or 5,400 INR. There are also a pair of GaN chargers in addition to these buds, a 120W charger that has been priced at CNY 300 or 3,600 INR as well as a 30W charger that retails for CNY 70 or 835 INR.

The last accessory is the thermally conductive case that retails for CNY 100 or 1,200 INR along with a snap-on cooling fan that is priced at CNY 220 or 2,600 INR.
