The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) plans to introduce a policy that would not allow players from pulling out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) without a proper reason. BCCI was forced to take this decision after multiple franchises had raised their concerns regarding this matter. The IPL GC meeting was held the previous week where the members discussed the matter of player pullouts from IPL after they were bought from the IPL Auction.
“The GC has a commitment towards the franchises who are the important stakeholders of the league. They bid for a player after a lot of planning. Their calculations go haywire if a player pulls out, that too for flimsy reasons,” a GC member stated.
“There will not be a sweeping policy that everyone who has pulled out of the IPL will be prevented for a certain number of years. It will be on a case-by-case basis and some research will be done before action is initiated. What if the reason is genuine,” a source in the know said.
Players tend to pull out of IPL due to injury or national duties but in recent times, they quoted different reasons for quitting the game. Before IPL 2022 started, Jason Roy exited saying that he desired to perfect his game and spend time with his family.

“I feel it is only right that I spend some quality time with my family. As well as spending time on myself and my game over the next couple of months, leading into a very busy year,” Roy had said before pulling out of IPL.
Hales, who was bought for INR 1.5 crore by Kolkata knight Riders (KKR) and stated that he needs time to recharge due to the bubble fatigue. KKR later has to look out for Aaron Finch who will miss the first five games due to Australia’s tour of Pakistan.
Mitchell Starc too have pulled out of IPL from Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders citing bubble fatigue.
The problem has been consistent from some time and BCCI is working to resolve this problem. Soon, BCCI will work to resist the players from pulling out of the cash-rich event.
