Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is the franchise cricket team based in Bangalore, Karnataka, playing in IPL. It was founded in 2008 by United Spirits and named after its liquor brand Royal Challenge. The team plays its home matches in M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The franchise was bought by Vijay Mallya for US $111.6 million for it. It was the second-highest bid after Reliance Industries’ bid for Mumbai Indians. The brand value of Royal Challengers Bangalore was estimated to be Rs 595 crore (US$78 million) in 2019, according to a survey conducted by Duff & Phelps.

The franchise finished as runners-up on three occasions between 2009-2016. The team has some of the best players but still couldn’t win a single season and thus they got the tag of underachievers. The team has both the records of highest and lowest totals of IPL- 263/5 and 49 respectively.

Strength

Faf du Plessis will be opening the innings and will try his best to score runs for the team. Virat Kohli, Dinesh Kartik and Glenn Maxwell will make the middle order strong. Maxwell and Karthik’s experience will have the ability to play big shots in the final overs. Mohammad Siraj and Harshal Patel are capable of taking a lot of wickets, the latter was last season’s purple cap winner. Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood is a major addition to the team as he played really well last season in CSK.

Weakness

The department lacks a wicket-taker in the spin department apart from Hasaranga. Karn Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmad have all the pressure of picking the wickets. It will be interesting to see how the team performs in the 15th edition of IPL.
