India cricketer Virat Kohli played his 100th Test match against Sri Lanka at IS Bindra Stadium Mohali on Friday. Virat had made his debut in the longest format in 2011 against West Indies in Jamaica. He’s the 12th Indian to achieve the milestone of playing 100th Tests.
Internationally, he is going to be the 71st player to reach the 100 Test matches club. He is also the fourth most successful skipper in the entire history of Test cricket. Under his captaincy, India has won a total of 40 matches out of 68 and has a winning percentage of 58.82. His batting record has been on the top-scoring 7962 runs with an amazing average of 50.38 in a total of 99 test matches. Kohli has made a total of 27 centuries and 28 half-centuries in the Test format.
In 2016, Virat scored a total of 1215 runs in 12 matches with an average of 79.53 and four 100s. he also scored his maiden century in tests at the Adelaide Oval against Australia in the year 2012. To date, he has 70 centuries in International cricket. He has surpassed the 200 run mark seven times which is the highest by an Indian cricketer.
Virat is has surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin’s record of 99 Tests.
The 12 Indian players who have appeared in 100 games are Sachin Tendulkar who played 200 Test matches, Rahul Dravid (163), VVS Laxman (134), Anil Kumble (132), Kapil Dev (131), Sunil Gavaskar (125), Dilip Vengsarkar (116), Sourav Ganguly (113), Ishant Sharma (105), Harbhajan Singh (103) and Virender Sehwag (103).
Out of the 11 cricketers from India who have played the century of Test matches, ten have retired. Only Ishant Sharma is still the active cricketer who is still playing the longest format of the game.
