Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon X70 5G modem at this year’s MWC, adding new features while improving performance. The chip company also adds AI capabilities, and if the reveal happens right now, it would most likely be available with the next Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.

The Snapdragon X70, according to Qualcomm, can attain peak downlink rates of 10Gbps. However, this level of performance is unlikely to be seen in real-world use. The 5G modem’s application of artificial intelligence to improve both mmWave and sub-6GHz bands is a great accomplishment. The modem uses a fake intelligence-based channel-state feedback and optimisation method to boost average downlink and uplink speeds.

Second, the Snapdragon X70 will boost coverage using AI-based mmWave beam management, followed by an AI-based network selection algorithm. Qualcomm’s latest baseband processor also supports all commercial 5G bands, ranging from 500MHz to 41GHz. The chip is compatible with all significant operators, thanks to this level of compatibility. The Snapdragon X70 has global 5G multi-SIM and Dual-SIM Dual Active compatibility.

The Snapdragon X70 assures maximum performance with a peak download speed of 10Gbps and a peak upload speed of 3.5Gbps. Qualcomm also says that Qualcomm 5G PowerSave Gen 3 technology makes its latest offering up to 60% more power-efficient. Qualcomm’s QET7100 Wideband Envelope Tracking and AI-based adaptive antenna tuning will help with power conservation and performance and latency optimisation.

The Snapdragon X70 is likely available for various Qualcomm phone partners later this year, including Apple. We believe the 5G modem will be available alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which according to previous sources, will be the first Qualcomm device to enable AV1. Apple is expected to get orders for this 5G modem in next year’s iPhones. However, we expect shipments to be limited as the company works on its modem.
