Newcastle United came close to sanctioning at least two more deals in the January transfer window. But, they failed to complete the deals within the transfer deadline at the end of the month.
As of now, the Premier League club are off the relegation zone and are preparing to push for new arrivals in the coming weeks as well.
Newcastle United preparing to sign new players in June
Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard was close to making the switch in the January transfer window, but the deal ultimately collapsed. “Jesse Lingard wanted to come to us. We did everything. We never stopped working on many deals,” Newcastle United director Amanda Staveley said.
The winger’s contract runs out in the summer, and he will be joining Newcastle as a free agent.
Lille centre-back Sven Botman was also very close to joining the Toons, but the two clubs failed to reach an agreement. According to Staveley, Botman was pushing to join the club and is still keen to make the move to Tyneside.
AC Milan are leading the race to sign the defender in the summer transfer window, but Newcastle are going to try again to finalise the deal with Lille. Milan met with his agent two weeks ago and will be trying again to sign him.
Diego Carlos of Sevilla was another name linked with a switch to Newcastle United. But since they hadn’t offered the release clause amount in the contract, Sevilla blocked the transfer.
