Bayern Munich have officially confirmed the signing of Alexander Nubel from Schalke.
Bayern Munich’s goal is being guarded by the able hands of Manuel Neuer, one of the best goalkeepers in history. But sadly, age is not on his side. So Bayern have started planning how to cope with the post Neuer era.
Bayern Munich have now signed Alexander Nubel from Schalke on a five-year deal. The 23-year-old had just six months left on his current Schalke deal and was unable to agree to fresh terms. So now, he will see out his remaining contract at Schalke and will then officially join the Bundesliga champions on 1st July on a free transfer.
Nubel joined Schalke from Paderborn in 2015 and has been regarded as the new Manuel Neuer by many.
But, he made the wrong headlines in December for an ugly challenge on Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Mijat Gacinovic. He faced a four-match ban for that challenge.
Nubel will join Bayern as back-up for Manuel Neuer before eventually replacing him later on. Neuer is contracted to the German champions until 2021, but Bayern hope he will sign a deal until 2023 in the near future.
Alexander Nubel has been stripped of his captaincy at Schalke following the announcement that he will join Bayern Munich on a five-year contract in the summer.
Schalke head coach David Wagner said: “We looked at all the pros and cons and decided that it’s better for the team if he gives up the armband. This way we avoid constant unrest. Alex remains an important member of the group. We need to continue to completely support every player.”
