ATK Mohun Bagan took one step closer to the top of the table by defeating FC Goa 2-0. Here are the three key talking points from the game.
Manvir Singh double enough for three points
The forward opened the scoring for ATK Mohun Bagan in the 3rd minute, assisted by Liston Colaco. He would repeat the same feat in the second half, scoring quickly after the break to double his side’s lead.
Singh has now scored four goals in his last three games in the ISL. This includes a goal against Hyderabad FC, NorthEast United and now, his double against Goa. He was also named the Hero of the Match as a result of his goals.
FC Goa unable to capitalise on opportunities
The Gaurs were the better team in the first half despite being scored against early. And even though they made their opponents work hard, they were unable to take their chances. As a result, they had to drop all three points against their former coach, and are now set for a lower-mid table finish.
ATK Mohun Bagan’s title ambitions coming to life
The Mariners are level on points with Hyderabad FC, and have an extra game in hand. As a result, they are in pole position to move ahead and take the top spot for themselves. And a 3-point lead at this stage might be enough to see them through, especially given the form that ATK Mohun Bagan have been on since the arrival of Juan Ferrando.
