Mumbai City FC defeated Odisha FC 4-1 in the ISL to retain their hopes of defending their title. Here are the three talking points from the game.
Double trouble
Mumbai City FC’s top scorer Igor Angulo, and winger Bipin Singh scored a double each in the game. The Indian managed to provide an assist for Angulo’s second goal as well, which ended up earning him the Hero of the Match award.
Angulo now has 10 goals from 14 games this season, four goals behind Golden Boot leader Bartholomew Ogbeche.
Walking to a win
The first half was a cagey affair, with Odisha being able to keep Mumbai City FC in control. However, the Islanders found a breakthrough and went into the tunnel with a 1-0 lead. The second half saw them come out firing on all fronts.
And halfway through the period, they were able to get a 4-0 lead which pretty much sealed the fate of the game. Jonathas was able to get a late consolation goal for Odisha FC and spoil Mohammad Nawaz’s hopes for a clean sheet. But, the defending champions were able to walk away with all three points comfortably.
Mumbai City FC back in the hunt
With the win against Odisha, Mumbai are back in the top four with 25 points from 15 games. They are four points away from the top with one extra game to play. But, the extra games that the other teams are yet to play can change the equation around the top four.
Right now, the champions still have realistic hopes of pulling off a surprise title defense if they can finish at the top.
