IPL 2022: "England, West Indies and South Africa to miss first 2-3 games"- BCCI Credits- Circle of Cricket

BCCI made an unpredictable decision for the IPL franchises. The board stated that players from England, West Indies and South Africa are going to miss a few of their matches in IPL 2022.

The 15th edition of IPL is going to start on March 27 and the players from the above-mentioned countries are going to miss the first few matches due to mandatory quarantine and national duty.

Players like Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder, Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood, among others miss out few early matches for the franchise.

International players to miss the first few matches

  • England and West Indies players will be playing a three-Test series that will begin on March 12 and end on March 28.
  • The English players are set to play the full edition of IPL 2022 but will miss the first few games due to mandatory quarantine.
  • South Africa and Bangladesh will be playing in 3 ODIs and 2 Tests from March 18 to April 11.
  • All the players from South Africa were supposed to take part in IPL after India’s tour of SA despite the Omicron threat.
  • Overseas players will have to undergo 5 days compulsory quarantine.

Availability of Overseas Players

Bangladesh Players in IPL: Shakib Al Hasan will miss the IPL 2022 from May 8 to 23 for the Test series. Mustafizur on the other hand will be available for the entire IPL 2022. Liton Das, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam will be available for their selection in international matches against SA and SL.

Australia Players in IPL 2022: The Australian players are expected to join the franchise after the Australia Tour of Pakistan. While Test players can join after March 25, the white-ball series will last till April 5. The players whose teams failed to make it to the Sheffield Shield Final can participate. It will run from March 31 to April 4.

Sri Lanka Players in IPL Auction: Sri Lanka players like Wanindu Hasaranga are set to miss IPL 2022 for a couple of weeks, i.e., from May 11 to 23.

New Zealand Players in IPL: All the Kiwi players will be fully available for the entire IPL 2022 season.
