M2 MacBook Pro is rumored to be launched in March This Year

Deal: Save $200 on MacBook Pro 13 with M2 chip

Apple’s M2 MacBook Pro is rumoured to be an entry-level device that will succeed the M1 MacBook Pro. Whereas we originally claimed that the revised version will be released in November, recent evidence suggests that Apple will release the portable Mac in March.

According to a paywalled rumour from DigiTimes, the M2 MacBook Pro will be released in March, the same month that Apple is expected to introduce the low-cost iPhone SE 5G and iPad Air 5. It was previously rumoured that Apple would conduct an event on March 8, which could indicate that the upgraded MacBook Pro will be announced at that time.

“Apple reportedly will release a spate of new devices in early March, including new MacBook Pro adopting the latest M2 processor, budget-level 5G iPhone SE and iPad, the sources said. Except for the processor, most other components used in the new MacBook Pro reportedly will feature almost the same specs as those for the existing model featuring M1 chips, leading MacBook Pro supply chain partners to maintain production during the week-long Lunar New Year holiday to satisfy the increasing demand for Mac series, the sources continued.”

The fact that the Apple Silicon was intended to be upgraded every 18 months is unusual to read in this paper. This means that after the M1, which was released in Q4 2020, the M2 will most likely be released in the second half of this year. So, why is the DigiTimes article suggesting that the new MacBook Pro with new SoC would be released first? A revamped MacBook Air with the same M2 is expected to go into mass production in the third quarter of this year, implying a Q4 release.

Because that launch timeline does not coincide with the M2 MacBook Pro’s introduction, we advise our readers to take all of this information with a grain of salt and wait for more information. In terms of the M2, it may have 8 CPU cores, with the option for users to tune it up to a 10-core GPU.
