Nike end sponsorship deal with Mason Greenwood after recent events

Nike have dropped Mason Greenwood from the list of sponsored athletes after the recent accusations placed against the Manchester United footballer.

The forward was arrested by the Greater Manchester police at the end of January, after evidence suggesting rape, sexual assault and threats to kill came to the surface, involving an 18-year-old student as the victim.

Mason Greenwood will no longer be sponsored by Nike

The 20-year-old has been released on bail, after spending three nights in prison following his arrest. He has not responded to any of the allegations since the news of his arrest, or subsequent release on bail.

Manchester United have also confirmed that Mason Greenwood will no longer be training with, or playing for the team until the situation is resolved. They have also allowed fans to get replacements of t-shirts with his name on the back.

Other commercial outlets such as FIFA, PES and eFootball have removed him from their products as well. Cadbury have also said that Greenwood won’t be a part of their advertisement campaigns either.

While Nike had previously announced that they had suspended their sponsorship deal with the player. ‘We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood. We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation,’ their statement read.

They have now confirmed his removal from their roster completely. And in all likelihood, he won’t be considered for the England national team anytime soon either.
