The Omicron virus of Covid-19 virus is spreading like a wildfire in India. Due to such a situation BCCI is considering to shift the venue to South Africa if the Covid-19 virus doesn’t come down in the next few weeks. According to a report by The Indian Express, South Africa is the second option for BCCI to host IPL 2022.

A BCCI official said “We can’t be dependent on UAE all the time so we decided to explore more options, South Africa’s time difference also works out well for the players,”

Why is SA preferred more than UAE?

The past two years of IPL was partially and full hosted in UAE in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic situation in the country.

  • IPL 2020 – Full IPL was hosted by UAE
  • IPL 2021 – Second half of IPL was hosted by the Gulf nation

The board this time isn’t considering to move IPL’s venue to UAE if the pandemic situation doesn’t improve in the country.

The feedback from the Indian players who are playing against South Africa is very positive about the hotels and bio-bubble conditions in South Africa according to a report.

The season 15 will be consisting 10 teams and BCCI is very much supportive of the mental health of the players in Bio- Bubble.

“The place where the team was staying for the second Test is spread over several acres. There were walking tracks and even a pond on the property and that has made things easier for the players who for the last couple of years or so have been confined to their rooms on several overseas tours,” said an official to the Indian Express.

The 2020 edition of IPL was held in the UAE due to the pandemic. The tournament had returned back to India in the next year but again got suspended in May due to the second wave in the country. The rest of the IPL was held in UAE in September- October.
