Gigabyte announces its AORUS 17 and AERO 17/16 2022 versions powered by Alder Lake Processors

Gigabyte is slated to release up to five new laptop models, all of which will include Intel’s new 12th Gen Core CPUs and NVIDIA’s latest RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPUs. Two of those future laptops, the AORUS 17 E-Series (12th Gen) and the AERO 17 E-Series (12th Gen), have been photographed (a successor to the Tiger Lake AERO 17 series).

AORUS 17 2022

It’s worth noting that the AORUS portfolio will be split between DDR4 and DDR5 versions. The DDR4-based laptops will have an Intel Core i7-12700H CPU and an RTX 3080 Ti GPU, and the DDR5-based laptops will have a Core i9-12900HK CPU and an RTX 3080 Ti GPU, as well as a 105-130W TGP (depending on the model).

It’s also worth noting that this laptop will have a 4K (38402160) mini-LED IPS display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. It has DisplayHDR1000 certification, indicating that it is a high-end screen (so peak brightness over 1000 nits). The 17G (mechanical keyboard) and 17X (flagship with Max-P graphics) variants have yet to be shown.

AERO 17/16 2022

The AERO Series is getting a big makeover. The 15-inch model will be replaced by a 16-inch variant. The display panel is the most significant update here; Gigabyte has finally removed the massive bottom bezel, which did not look well. Samsung makes the AMOLED panel, which has a resolution of up to 38402600 pixels (DisplayHDR500, 100 percent DCI-P3). A variant with 25601600 Mini-LEDs is also available (DisplayHDR 1000, 100 DCI-P3, and 165Hz refresh rate).

The new AERO will have a Core i9-12900HK CPU and an RTX 3080 Ti/3070Ti GPU, both of which are limited to 105W. (AERO series usually had Max-Q graphics).

AERO 2021 vs AERO 2022

Having owned an AERO 15 XD OLED laptop, I can tell you that the laptop’s most serious flaw, the power connector on the right side, has yet to be addressed (if you are using a mouse a lot then you probably know how annoying this can be). On the good side, the camera that was formerly situated on the bottom bezel has been relocated to the top of the screen, however, it does not have a privacy filter like the previous model.

The fingerprint sensor isn’t visible on the touchpad, but the camera array may support Windows Hello, which would be a significant advance. Because the antennae were misplaced beneath a metal display lid (a major design defect), the AERO 15 series is noted for poor WiFi reception. It’s difficult to determine from the photographs whether the lid is still metal or plastic. However, as strange as it may sound, a plastic lid would be an improvement.

The announcement of both Gigabyte laptops is now slated for January 4th. The specific launch date has yet to be determined.
