Apple has created a monster in the form of the M1 Max MacBook Pro

Apple’s new MacBook Pro M1 Pro and M1 Max models created a stir in the laptop market by combining improved performance and battery life in a single package. Furthermore, details on Apple’s latest Silicon are still pouring in, praising the new machines’ efficiency and lightning speed.

Because the 2021 MacBook Pro models run on different platforms, comparing them to Windows PCs is not a good idea. As a result, we can estimate how powerful the machines are by comparing them to an older Mac. An M1 Max ProRes benchmark test appears to have surfaced, aiming to compare ProRes video exports on the new MacBook Pro to the 2019 Mac Pro. To learn more about the outcome, scroll down.

When comparing the new 2021 MacBook Pro to the 2019 Mac Pro in the M1 Max ProRes benchmark test, the new MacBook Pro exports ProRes video three times faster. Even with an Afterburner card installed, the M1 Max MacBook Pro is twice as quick as the 2019 Mac Pro, according to Macworld.

The 28-core Intel Xeon W CPU, combined with the Afterburner card to accelerate ProRes playback and decoding, is required to achieve the highest level of ProRes performance on the 2019 Mac Pro. With advanced color grading, two powerful GPUs can only help. Of course, all of this comes at a very high price.

The MacBook Pro’s M1 Max contains two ProRes encoders and decoders, which beats the MacPro’s Afterburner card’s single decoder. Apple takes its ProRes performance very seriously, as evidenced by the benchmarks. It single-handedly outperformed the top-spec 2019 Mac Pro thanks to M1 Max’s decoders and encoders.

Not only that, but it will considerably increase multi-stream 8K content playing performance. Colour grading improves as well, with Final Cut Pro’s noise reduction and stabilization being quick. Previously, this was the domain of high-end workstations or Mac Pros with high-end GPUs, but the ProRes implementation levelled the playing field and substantially reduced the barrier of entry.

If you’re new to the benchmark test, it compares the time it takes to convert a five-minute ProRes RAW film to ProRes 422HQ on the M1 Max MacBook Pro and the 2019 Mac Pro. This is the time it took the machines to complete the task.

  • 2021 M1 Max MacBook Pro took 76 seconds.
  • 2019 Mac Pro took 233 seconds.
  • 2019 Mac Pro with Afterburner card took 153 seconds.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard information about the M1 Max MacBook Pro’s performance. Apple’s latest chip in the redesigned MacBook Pro models is also praised in the impressive Lightroom benchmarks.
