India vs New Zealand : Ajaz Patel’s record breaking performance
On the 2nd day of the 2nd test, Ajaz Patel dismissed 10 batters in an innings and picked up a total of 14 wickets in a match. He has won the hearts of Indian cricketers and will be honoured with his birthplace Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium. He will be presented with the official scoresheet of the 2nd Test (New Zealand vs India).
The homecoming was made more special when MCA’s president Vijay Patil presented him with India- New Zealand scoresheet and a momento.
Ajaz Patel became the third cricketer in the history of the sport to bag 10 wickets in an innings after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble. He achieved it on the 2nd day of Test 2 in Mumbai. Ajaz Patel later handed over the ball and the T-shirt for Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) museum.

- Patel’s 14/225 match figure is best till date by an international player against India
- Patel became the 3rd player after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble to to get the 10 wickets giving out 119 runs.
- 14/225 figure is the second best figure by a kiwi player after Richard Hadlee
In a virtual Press conference he said “After I came off the field things took place very quickly. These kinds of things don’t really sink in too late. Obviously, it’s a special moment. I am not gonna lie about it. It is special for me. I met my family, my mom and dad, wife. It’s neither easy being a cricketer, spending a lot of time away from home,”
Ajaz Patel believes that coming to his hometown and setting such an extraordinary record was a blessing to him by the Almighty.
Meanwhile, it was team India’s victory over the Black Caps by a huge margin of 372 runs. With winning the series at 1-0, India again became the No. 1 team according to ICC rankings.
Virat and his team will be going to South Africa for three Tests and three ODI’s from 26 December.
