Salah and Miedema earn 2021 FSA Players of the Year Awards

Mohamed Salah has picked up the FSA Men’s Player of the Year Award for 2021, which was given out on Monday. The Liverpool forward has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season, and that tally is set to increase. He is currently in unstoppable form and leads the race for the Golden Boot.

In the calendar year, he has netted 32 goals across all competitions and helped Liverpool out through last season’s injury crisis, and subsequently qualified for the Champions League. 400,000 voters participated in the poll, and Salah has emerged as the favourite.

‘There’s no doubt Mohamed is having another incredible year, the number and quality of his goals have once again lit up English football and contributed to Liverpool’s title push,’ said Kevin Miles, chief executive of the Football Supporters’ Association.

‘As well as his on-field ability, Mohamed’s character has won support from fans across the game and he was a clear favourite among the voting public.’

The women’s award was given to Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema for the third successive time. Miedema is Arsenal and Netherlands’ highest ever goalscorer, and has already netted against every team she has faced this season in the WSL. Her tally so far this season is 13 goals, and counting.

‘It’s a bit unexpected to be honest,’ Miedema told BBC Sport.

‘It’s pretty cool to win something like this, and with the fans voting it’s extra special.’

Among the other awards handed out, Peter Drury was named the commentator of the year, while Alex Scott picked up the best pundit award.
